Vrijwel alle grote banken in Nederland sluiten rekeningen van seksondernemers. In andere gevallen weigeren ze rekeningen te openen voor raamexploitanten, escortbedrijven of massagesalons.

Voor je het weet, moet ik een verklaring van goed gedrag overleggen voordat ik een bankrekening mag openen!!

Nee, banken moeten zich bezig houden met hun eigen zaken en niet als moraalridder gaan optreden. Als het gaat om immoreel gedrag kunnen banken echt het hoofd niet fier overeind houden, gezien de ontwikkelingen van de laatste tijd (ookal doen ze hoe arrogant, de kredietcrisis is niet een donderslag uit heldere hemel, zij zijn hier de veroorzakers, niet de slachtoffers)

Er zou een bovengrens moeten zijn aan de kantonrechtersformule.

De kantonrechter in Amsterdam heeft Jan Peter Schmittmann, de topman van ABN Amro Nederland, een vertrekpremie van 8 miljoen euro toegewezen. Dit zei een woordvoerder van ABN Amro dinsdag.

ABN wilde Schmittmann niet meer dan 2,4 miljoen euro meegeven, gelijk aan zijn jaarsalaris in 2007. De topman spande hiertegen een procedure aan en werd in het gelijk gesteld.

I guess to Israel, that means anything Palestinian.

Good heavens, over 140 dead... have they taken complete leave of their senses??!! This is unconscionable.

Though I expect the USA to -by reflex- approve this by blocking any UN action, and despite my low expectations of my own government, I hope the world will speak as one to denounce this. There can be no justification for killing 140 people and wounding so many more, so carelessly. None!!

While I certainly have some sympathy for those in Israel living within reach of the homemade Palestinian rockets, they have mostly themselves to blame for this. Gaza is an open air prison under unbearable pressure, the living conditions are shocking. Drive people into a corner and you will make the reaction as radical and unbending as it has become.

The solution to this hell is in Israeli hands, and it does not include more death and destruction.




Edit: A few hours later and the death toll is at 195. This is unforgivable!

Edit, one hour later: death toll is over 220 now, and rising. Many seriously injured. Israel says it's only the beginning, Hamas is calling for a third intifada. USA called upon Israel to try to not kill civilians. Jesus wept.

Edit, ten hours later: according to the news, the bombing continued. Death toll now is 271 with some 620 wounded. Amongst the targets were a mosque (2 dead) and the Al Aqsa TV station (which managed to stay on the air, broadcasting from another location). There is no international rule or treaty, it seems, that the Israeli government feels it has to adhere to, when it comes to Palestinians. Do they even see them as fellow human beings, I wonder...

Het maakt niet uit wat ik doe, hoe hard ik probeer... ik kom nooit in aanmerking om een eigen huis te kopen.

Starters zonder eigen geld komen volgend jaar moeilijker aan een hypotheek. Door de financiële crisis hebben banken de kredietkraan grotendeels dichtgedraaid. Om de risico's te verkleinen, komen steeds minder mensen in aanmerking voor een hypotheek.

Nu komen de prijzen uiteindelijk binnen de grenzen van mijn kunne, dan gaan ze mij als risicogroep zien. Terwijl ik altijd keurig mijn financiële verplichtingen nakom.

Tja.
Verloren generatie, steeds bungelend achter de tsunami van de na-oorlogse geboortegolf. Ieder potje is leeggesnoept tegen de tijd dat ik langskom. Alhoewel, wat nu gebeurt heeft niet zoveel te maken met de grijze golf, eerder met ongebreidelde hebzucht en het geleidelijke verlies van de solidariteitsprincipe over de hele linie.

En toch neem ik hier geen genoegen mee.

Het kabinet houdt onwrikbaar vast aan zijn standpunt over de politieke steun die Nederland gaf aan de Amerikaans-Britse inval in Irak in 2003.

Eveneens blijft het kabinet weigeren de adviezen en ambtelijke stukken te openbaren die ten grondslag lagen aan het Nederlandse besluit.

Bludgeoning assent

It seems, Ireland is to be bludgeoned into assent just like The Netherlands and France were after their initial no's. The oh so democratic European Union decided to..... let Ireland hold another referendum!

Perhaps they will be kept voting till they give the 'right' answer.

Lucky Irish. If the obligation to hold a referendum were not in their constitution, the very same would happen to them as happened to the Dutch and French: change a few words, shift a few paragraphs, delete a song and give the thing another name, declare that a referendum is no longer needed and approve it before anyone has a chance to protest.


They have a very strange definition of democracy in Europe.

No wonder I am turning against the EU as an entity, while I used to be one of the strongest proponents. The democratic content of Europe is minimal and seems to be declining with every back room decision made, every forced acquiescence, every coercion, every hollowing out of our rights for the benefit of us all.

Yes, I feel bullied. And angry. Still.

Worst of all is Germany's nefast role in dredging up the EU Constitution (Lisbon Treaty) after it had been rejected by French and Dutch voters. Having made one blunder, they are now making another by refusing to accept the Irish verdict as well.

Why are they so maniacal about this? Because the treaty establishes German primacy in the EU's voting structure. This is raw national interest – camouflaged, of course.

So Brian Cowen – already the most reviled Taoiseach since the creation of the Irish state – is bludgeoned into a second vote. This is what now passes for EU statecraft. A tactical case can be made, that fear will induce Irish voters to change their minds as GDP contracts by 4pc next year. Even if that proves correct, will it convince anybody that the European Project is advancing with democratic assent?

What if the Irish vote 'No' again? Will Germany carry out its threat to "suspend" them from the EU, and thereby risk a final revulsion against Europe and the unravelling of the post-War order?

One notes that Germany has acquired the taste for bullying small nations. Mr Steinbrück threatened to "take a whip" to Switzerland. The sooner Germans take a whip to Mr Steinbrück and all he stands for, the better. Otherwise the rest of us will have to start examining our options.

Hoe kan zo'n marge-partij

Mocht er nog twijfel over bestaan: de door burgemeesters voorgestelde proef met gereguleerde wietteelt komt er niet. Terwijl minister Ab Klink deze optie nog aan het onderzoeken is staat Arie Slob bovenop zijn strepen: "zo zijn de afspraken die in het coalitieakkoord staan."

Ik houd Wouter Bos hier volledig verantwoordelijk voor. Hij weigerde pertinent de mogelijkheid van een linkse coalitie zelfs bespreekbaar te maken. Nu zitten we met een rechtse club opgescheept dat zoveel schade aanbrengt en alleen maar focus heeft voor morele zaken zoals prostitutie, abortus, drugsgebruik... terwijl de klimaat in sneltreinvaart naar de knoppen gaat en de economie, net zo hard.
